A Novel Approach for Secure Hybrid Islanding Detection Considering the Dynamic Behavior of Power and Load in Electrical Distribution Networks

In the arena of modern electrical power distribution systems, distributed generators (DGs) are emerging as a manifestation electric personalization. Even though DGs have various advantages, unintentional islanding phenomena caused by during abnormal grid operations can damage equipment connected to grid. Therefore, detection mechanisms essential for in grid-connected mode disconnect DG from case abnormalities obeying specific codes. this regard, novel approach develop secure hybrid method (IDM) is presented paper. The proposed IDM developed combining two passive IDMs known rate change active and reactive with an called load connecting strategy. An 11 kV Malaysian system integrated three types DGs, namely synchronous generator, photovoltaic, biomass, has been chosen testbed verification IDM. Seven different studies conducted PSCAD/EMTDC platform validate performance non-islanding events. simulation results confirm that detect within 0.09 s, which 2 s complying IEEE IEC standards. Further, comparative study based on time non-detection zone carried out, confirmed demonstrates better compared previously IDMs.
